HTC Hero vs iPhone 3GS, is the HTC Hero the first legit iPhone Killer?

iphonekiller

The HTC Hero is here(well it will be soon) and this could be a legitimate iPhone killer, or at least the first phone that makes me want to jump over and snag it in place of my iPhone.

HTC made a good choice and dropped Windows Mobile for the Android OS, as that was one of the major things keeping me, and alot of people, from the HTC Fuze. Since we need to know if it can really “kill” the iPhone, I made a breakdown:

Things HTC Hero has but the 3GS doesnt:

Right now it has a few things that even the iPhone 3GS doesnt have.

5.0 megapixel camera, which in of itself is worth the phone.

It has a flash enabled web browser, so there is a whole new realm of possibilities when it comes to streaming video, music and other things via the internet.

It comes with a MicroSD slot so you can expand the memory as well.

Wide range of audio/video file support.

Open phone OS with Android.

Things HTC Hero matches with the 3GS:

It comes packed with a Digital Compass, same screen size and resolution, multi-touch, internal GPS antena, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, 3.5 MM Audio Jack,

Things it doesnt match up with 3GS:

Internal Harddrive: So far there is nothing listed on the HTC site that mentions anything sort of internal harddrive for storage. At this point you will have to rely on the microSD for all storage which I am not a big fan of, I prefer the internal HD the iPhone boasts.

I also see no mention of an external speak like the iPhone for music playback. That is also a big turn off for this phone since I listen to my iPhone on a daily basis through the external speaker.

The design is almost as thing as the 3GS, but I am not a big fan of the “chin” or the curved bottom part of the phone. Seems like it would be uncomfortable in my pocket if turned the wrong way, and look strange to people if turned out.

It makes no mention of the Auto Focus option the 3GS now supports, so that would be a win for the 3GS as well.

Height/Width/Weight/Battery vs 3GS:

iPhone 3GS Height: 4.5 inches
HTC Hero Height: 4.41 inches

iPhone 3GS Width: 0.48 inches
HTC Hero Width: 0.57 inches

iPhone 3GS Weight: 4.8 ounces
HTC Hero Weight: 4.76 ounces

iPhone 3GS Battery Talk Time: 5 Hours on 3G
HTC Hero Battery Talk Time: 7.8 Hours on 3G

iPhone 3GS Standby Time: Up to 300 Hours
HTC Hero Standby Time: Up to 440 Hours

All in all this is going to be one that I give a strong look at to take the place of my iPhone for the camera, multi-touch and android alone.

Here are some additonal photos for you to enjoy…

Merry Christmas to me!

Christmas has been very good to me this year, thanks to my awesome wife. First I got an HP Mini 1030NR:

Then she got me a Tom Tom, with an Incase Neoprone case for it:

Yes! Then yesterday I got home and had all 3 of my Rob Zombie DVD’s signed by Rob and Sherri! How freaking awesome is that?!

Merry Christmas everyone, and I hope Santa brings you all what you want..

I know what it looks like..

Like I havent blogged since halloween, and well thats just not the case. I switched my site over from tumblr and this is the last update I did in my database. So bear with me, I will try and get all the old stuff over here as well.

For now check out my new HP Mini:

or how about my Vanilla Ice/New Kids on the Block buttons:

Freehands Gloves let you use gadgets while wearing gloves

I love these, even though they have been done before, but the best part the gloves is how they market them on their website. On the site  the most expensive gloves, Leather @ $40, are holding the iPhone. The next in line are the stretch gloves @ $30 is holding the new Android T1. The cheapest gloves, Fleece @ $20, are holding a Kodak PMP. Genius!

Sirius and XM, now pick what stations you want..

Sirius and XM have announced their plans for an A La Carte option starting at 7 bucks a month, which doesnt include premium channels, but those can be added on an individual option of .50 per month, per channel. I know, its sounds confusing, but if you only listen to a handful of stations they are probably all included in the A La Carte plan. With these changes, also comes with a hardware change, you need a Sirius player capable of A La Carte.

This from Sirius:

Create your own personalized package of 50 channels from a selection of SIRIUS’ 100% commercial-free music, sports talk, entertainment, news, traffic and weather channels. Requires an A La Carte-capable SIRIUS radio. Does not include free online listening with SIRIUS Internet Radio.

This A La Carte package does not include live games, races, Howard Stern. These channels are available for an additional charge.

The Base package starts at $6.99 a month. Premium channels and any channels beyond your Base 50 will be an extra 25¢ / month. Your monthly package price never goes higher than $12.95 no matter how many channels you select.

Well..its better than nothing right? They have also announced a Best of XM and Best of Sirius expansion to your current service..

Palm Treo Pro shipping now..

Yes its sexy, but when will these companies realize that what people really want/need is large amounts of built in memory, like the iPhone touts. Plus Treo switched over to Windows Mobile which is a horrible excuse for smart phone OS. I rocked the hell out of the Treo 650, then they jumped over the WM and I dropped them faster than Microsoft dropped Jerry Sienfeld. Engadget got some info about it shipping to customers right now for the kick in the face price of $549!

Here are the specs for the Palm Treo Pro..

  • Touchscreen and full keyboard
  • Microsoft® Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional Edition
  • Outlook® email with Microsoft® Direct Push Technology and HTML support1,2
  • High-speed data with UMTS/HSDPA3
  • High-capacity, removable battery
  • Instant-on Wi-Fi button1
  • GPS for navigation, turn-by-turn directions, and local search1

  • Use Internet Explorer® Mobile to search the web fast1
  • Functions as a high-speed modem for your laptop5
  • Personal email including Hotmail, Yahoo!, and Gmail1
  • Chat-style view for SMS and MMS6

T Mobile G1 with android..

The TMobile G1 is the first phone to have google’s OS Android on it, and damn does it pack a punch. Not only does it have a full keyboard, its also open source and has google push mail. That makes my heart sputter. Here are some of the specs:

  • HSDPA 1700 / 2100 plus quadband EDGE
  • WiFi
  • 3D graphics acceleration
  • 1GB integrated storage plus microSD expansion
  • 3-megapixel camera
  • Android Market for on-device app purchases
  • Amazon MP3 app for on-device music purchases
  • Push Gmail support with full HTML client
  • Bluetooth (but no A2DP)
  • Google Maps with Street View
  • No Microsoft Exchange support
  • No desktop synchronization — it all happens over the air

Makes me kind of wish I had T Mobile, and not the iPhone!

New Microsoft commercial, minus Jerry Sienfeld

Microsoft decided to switch their direction and dumped Jerry Sienfeld for a more serious approach to the “I’m a PC” commercials that Apple uses..

I like it, you can see Tony Parker, Eva Longoria, Pharrell, Bill Gates, a dude that looks like the ‘I’m a PC’ guy, and a couple other celebs in there..looks like they have you beat Apple, all you have is Justin Long.

Acer Aspire One laptop..

This thing is sexy, and on the cheap side for ultra portable laptops..

120gb hard drive, 1gb memory, XP preloaded, built in webcam..pure sex. I need to have it..If you want to buy it for me, its on my amazon wish list..

Hacked USB..

freak people out with this new USB Jump drive. It looks like someone just ripped your device off, or maybe you jacked it from someone else!
